Herd fall to Bengals in Opener

PHILADELPHIA PA - The Garden State Herd opened up their season taking on the Tri-state Bengals in an torrential downpour yesterday. The weather looked to have played a huge factor on both teams offenses, yet the Bengals come out on top 18 - 0 putting a damper on the Herds opening day parade.

Stephen Panasuk, looked absolutely pedestrian in that weather going 1 for 8 and throwing 2 interceptions and losing a fumble.

The ground game couldn't get anything going either, veteran RB Joey Calello was bottle up all game long be that bengals defense. Big play running back Makiy Caesar couldn't get anything rolling either against his former team as they also kept him held down to 4 yards total and a fumble.

After the benching of Panasuk in the 4th quarter WR Willie Gross III & young QB Chase Fairbanks showed a ton of promise connecting with each other on 3 receptions for 42 yards as well as Fairbanks connecting on a 40 yard bomb to speedy Receiver Michael Effinger for a touchdown that's magically called back. That 4th quarter performance definitly gave that Herd offense a spark and positive outlook going into week 2.

Defensively the weather also played into the hands of the Garden State Herd. Led by Veteran LB Leon Foster Sr. The defense held the high impact offense of the Bengals to just 53 yards of total offense and -3 years passing from Bengals QB Demetri Davis.

Special teams seemed to be the Achilles heal for the Herd as they could get off a punt all day constantly giving the Bengals the ball with great field position.

Honestly not much else can be said about this nasty weather game. The Herd could chalk this peformce up to plying in a monsoon and could come out next week against the Baltimore Hurricanes and put on a absolute show for all to see!
